India’s top three most popular and best-selling SUVs, the Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon and Kia Seltos, are all set to undergo generational shift in the next couple of years. All three manufacturers major focus will be on new hybrid powertrains, more appealing design, and advanced tech features.
Model Name | Launch Details |
Next-gen Hyundai Creta | 2027 |
Next-gen Kia Seltos | H1, 2026 |
Next-gen Tata Nexon | 2026-27 |
The second-generation Hyundai Creta was launched in 2020 and received its mid-life facelift in January 2024. The company has started working on the next-gen Creta SUV, which is likely to arrive in our market sometime in 2027.
Internally codenamed SX3, the next-generation Creta will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Tamil Nadu based manufacturing unit. The big update is that the new model will receive a strong hybrid powertrain. It is expected that the new hybrid unit will be based on the 1.5L NA petrol engine. The SUV will also receive the existing 1.5L NA and turbo petrol engines; however, Hyundai could skip diesel engine as it will need many changes to meet the stringent BS7 emission norms.
The next-gen Hyundai Creta is also expected to receive significant design and interior changes along with a longer list of premium features. It will rival the likes of the Tata Sierra, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos and others.
Kia has started testing the next-gen Seltos midsize SUV on the Indian roads. It is expected to be launched sometime in 2026, while official reveal likely in the November 2025. The new SUV will come with all new design and interiors along with a hybrid powertrain.
The new-gen Kia Seltos will come with an all-new exterior and will have a boxy profile compared to angular design of the current model. The spy images reveal that the new Seltos has an upright nose, flatter roof and straight lines. At the back, the SUV gets new tail-lights with LED inserts, a new tailgate, roof-integrated spoiler and an all-new lower bumper.
The new Seltos is likely to get a 30-inch Trinity Display, a connected screen comprising a 12.3-inch infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 5-inch unit for climate control. Other features could include leatherette seats, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, powered driver and co-driver seats, dual-zone climate control, LEVEL 2 ADAS, front and rear parking sensors, etc. The big update is that the next-gen Seltos will come with a hybrid powertrain. Moreover, existing engine options will continue to be on offer.
Tata Motors is preparing two new compact SUVs, including the next-gen Nexon and an all-new Scarlet lifestyle SUV. It is reported that the next-gen Tata Nexon will go on sale in the country in the second half of 2026. The new model is rumoured to be based on the existing X1 platform, which will be heavily upgraded to receive massive structural changes.
The next-gen Tata Nexon is likely to receive significant design and interior changes in line with newer Tata models. It is expected to get improved infotainment and driver’s displays, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front and rear seats, powered front seats and improved ADAS tech.
The new Nexon is likely to come with petrol and CNG fuel options. If reports are to be believed, the new compact SUV could get a new 1.5L, 4-cylinder, NA petrol engine, which will first debut in entry-level Tata Sierra. Other engine choices will include a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and petrol-CNG.
