Kia Sorento Hybrid SUV India Launch Soon – What We Know So Far

Kia Sorento hybrid SUV expected to launch around Diwali 2026. It could be offered with a 1.5L petrol hybrid powertrain in India.

2026 is set to be an important year of Kia India as the South Korean automaker will introduce its first mass-market BEV (battery electric vehicle) and HEV (hybrid electric vehicle). The Kia Syros EV will make its official debut in the last week of July and go on sale in August 2026. It will be the brand’s most affordable EV in India, taking on the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XEV 3XO. Meanwhile, the Kia Sorento three-row hybrid SUV will arrive around the Diwali season this year.

The Kia Sorento is currently sold in several global markets including South Korea, United States, Australia, New Zealand along with select Middle East and European countries. Codenamed MQ4i, the upcoming Kia 7-seater hybrid SUV is reportedly being evaluated for India with a hybridised 1.5L petrol engine in India. However, it’s globally available with a 1.6L turbocharged GDi petrol engine paired with a 59bhp, permanent magnet synchronous motor.

Depending on the market, the SUV comes with both FWD and AWD drivetrain system. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed automatic gearbox. With a powerful 1.6L petrol hybrid powertrain, the Kia Sorento accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 8-9 seconds, and offers a top speed of around 190kmph.

Dimensionally, the Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height. The SUV comes with a 2,815mm long wheelbase and a ground clearance of 176mm. In global markets, it’s available in both 6 and 7-seats layout, with the option of second-row bench or captain seats along with a fold-flat third row.

Similar to the global-spec version, the India-bound Kia Sorento is expected to be packed with several advanced comfort, connectivity and safety features.
