Maruti Suzuki is all set to announce the prices of the new Victoris mid-sized SUV, as the Government of India has reduced the GST rates across auto products and vehicles. A big new for Maruti Suzuki is that the Government of India has also slashed duties on hybrid cars, and small hybrids with engine capacity less than 1200cc will be charged straight 18%.
It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is preparing a low-cost hybrid powertrain, which is likely to be a series hybrid unit. This powertrain will utilise the 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z-series petrol engine, a small battery pack and an electric motor. This powertrain will power Maruti’s mass-market cars, and the Fronx will be the first to receive the new hybrid engine.
Maruti Suzuki will give a mid-life update to its high-selling Fronx in 2026. It is expected that the new hybrid engine will debut in the Maruti Fronx facelift. In the series hybrid engine, the petrol engine will work as a generator or range extender. The engine produces electricity to power an electric motor that drives the wheels. The electric motor draws power from either a battery pack or from a generator run by the petrol engine.
If media reports are to be believed, the new Maruti Fronx facelift will be the most fuel efficient SUV in the country. The new hybrid system will return a certified fuel economy of over 35kmpl. Not just Fronx, the new hybrid engine will also power the next-gen Maruti Baleno, Swift and an all-new Spacia based MPV.
The Maruti Fronx facelift is expected to receive cosmetic design and interior changes along with a longer list of comfort and convenience features. It is expected to receive six airbags as standard, ESP, 360-degree camera, hill hold assist and others. The company could also add an electric sunroof. MSIL is also planning to introduce ADAS tech in smaller cars, and the Fronx could be the first sub-4 meter SUV to get this driver assistance system.
