Tata Motors and Mahindra are planning to introduce a wide range of new electric vehicles, mostly SUVs in the country. Tata Motors has recently introduced the Curvv EV, while Mahindra has launched the BE 6e and XEV 9e electric Coupe-SUVs at a shockingly aggressive price tag. Not just these products, both brands are now looking to introduce lifestyle electric SUVs in our market.
Tata Motors had showcased the Sierra EV concept at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo. In fact, the company has confirmed that the EV and ICE version of the Sierra will be launched in our market sometime in 2025. On the other hand, Mahindra is preparing EV versions of the Thar and Scorpio. The UV maker had showcased the Thar.e concept last year.

The Sierra EV will be based on the brand's Acti.ev architecture which underpins the Punch EV and the Curvv EV. In fact, the upcoming Harrier EV and Safari EV will also be based on the same architecture. Patent images of the lifestyle EV have already been leaked on the Internet. The EV will share most of its styling cues from the concept, featuring aggressive front fascia with a closed-off grille, a prominent skid plate, a full-width LED strip, squared off-wheel arches and thick cladding all-around the body. It retains some of its styling from the original Sierra, having big glass area between C and D-pillars, and boxy-styling.
It will come as a premium lifestyle SUV with high-end features. If rumours are to be believed, the e-SUV is expected to be offered with two seating configurations - the regular 5-seater with rear bench seat and the 4-seater lounge version. The lounge version will have independent seats at the rear with electric adjustment feature. The EV will have features like ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, ambient mood lighting, and others. It is likely to be packed with an 80kWh battery pack with dual-motor setup for AWD system.

Mahindra will electrify the Thar and Scorpio lifestyle SUVs for the Indian market. Both SUVs will be based on the brand's new scalable platform, called INGLO. This platform can accommodate battery pack up to 80kWh, as the newly introduced BE 6e and XEV 9e also gets 79kWh battery pack. At the unveiling of the Thar.e concept, Mahindra said that the e-SUV is based on the specialized INGLO-P1 platform. This platform is designed for an extended range by using a blend of lightweight construction and expanded battery capacity.
This electric SUV concept comes with a prolonged wheelbase, ranging from 2776mm to 2976mm, along with reduced overhangs. The e-SUV will offer excellent approach angle, departure angle, ramp-over angle, and water wading capacity. Similarly Scorpio EV will offer premium interior and will be positioned as a premium lifestyle SUV.
