We informed you earlier that Tata Motors will launch 3 new petrol SUVs before the end of this financial year. Our sources confirmed that all three petrol-powered SUVs will be launched by December 2025. The Sierra ICE will launch in November, while the long-awaited Tata Harrier and Safari petrol will arrive at the end of November or December 2025.
The 2025 Tata Harrier and Safari will be powered by a new 1.5-litre TGDi direct injection turbo petrol engine. This engine was first revealed at the 2023 Auto Expo. The engine is claimed to produce 170hp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 2,000rpm - 3,500rpm. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission). This new TGDi petrol engine has aluminium body built, and is claimed to be lightweight and stiffer.
This engine has variable valve timing, dual cam phasing, a variable oil pump and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head. There is a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger that offers better torque delivery from lower rpms, resulting in an improved acceleration.

Tata Sierra ICE will be offered with 3 engine choices, including a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 2.0L turbo diesel. Tata Motors has acquired the license of manufacturing this engine from Fiat, and we can expect the Sierra to get the same engine in a different state of tune.
Tata Motors will launch the electric version of the Sierra lifestyle SUV in January 2026. The SUV could be revealed in production avatar in December 2025. It is expected to borrow its battery packs with the Harrier EV, which is available with 65kWh and 75kWh options. However, the Sierra EV will be a front-wheel-drive lifestyle SUV, and the dual-motor AWD/QWD could be offered on the top-spec variant.
