Tata Punch tops SUV sales Sonet and Seltos witnessed massive growth
The SUV market remained hot in March 2026, and the monthly sales figures clearly prove it. The Tata Punch (including ICE and EV) emerged as India’s best-selling SUV, registering sales of 20,977 units compared to 17,714 units last year, reflecting a YoY growth of 18%.
With sales of 19,810 units, the Tata Nexon secured the second position recording a 21% growth. Attributes such as compact yet modern styling, strong value proposition and multiple powertrain options have consistently worked in their favour. Additionally, Tata Motors continues to offer attractive discounts across its range, further increasing demand.
The Hyundai Creta ranked third, with sales of 17,838 units against 18,059 units previous year, witnessing a slight YoY decline of 1%. The Maruti Brezza also saw a 3% decline, with sales dropping to 16,130 units from 16,546 units in the corresponding month previous year.
The Maruti Fronx recorded a healthy 14% growth, with total sales reaching 15,540 units compared to 13,669 units in March 2025. The Mahindra Scorpio secured the sixth spot in the chart, registering sales of 14,578 units against 12,913 units.
Interestingly, the Kia Sonet witnessed a massive 56% jump in sales, driven by introduction of new automatic variant. The subcompact recorded 12,012 units as opposed to 7,705 units. The Hyundai Venue stood at eighth position with sales of 11,147 units, marking a 7% YoY growth. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki sold 11,062 units of the Victoris. The new Kia Seltos also posted an impressive YoY growth of 69%.
