Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the fast growing Indian automotive industry. The latest breed of Toyota cars including the Innova Hycross and Hyryder have been receiving an excellent response from car buyers. This year, the company plans to launch at least 3-4 cars.
Let's have a closer look at the upcoming Toyota cars and SUVs in 2025.
Japanese automaker has showcased the Urban Cruiser EV at the Global Mobility Expo 2025. It is expected that the production-ready SUV will be launched in the country in the second half of 2025. The Urban Cruiser EV is based on the Suzuki's e-HEARTECT Born-EV platform that underpins the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
The styling of the Urban Cruiser EV is significantly different from the e Vitara; however, both models share the body panels and interiors. The SUV will be equipped with a larger free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable driver's seat, automatic AC and others. The SUV also gets advanced driver assistance system and a 360 degree surround view monitor.
It measures 4285mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1640mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2700mm. Riding on the large 19-inch wheels, the e-SUV offers a turning radius of just 5.2 meters. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is offered with two battery packs along with single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD setups. It gets a 49kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 144hp and offers 189Nm of torque. The higher variants get a 61kWh battery pack with FWD and AWD setup. The FWD model offers 174hp and 189Nm of torque, while the dual-motor AWD version delivers 184hp and 300Nm of torque.
Similar to Maruti Suzuki, Toyota is also preparing a 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder for India. The 7-Seater Hyryder is expected to be launched around 2025 festive season. It will ride on a longer wheelbase and will have an extended length to accommodate third-row. Maruti-Toyota duo will also utilize Hyryder's boot to improve the space in the third-row.
It will directly rival the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. The new Toyota 7-seater Hyryder is likely to be offered with the 1.5L K15 petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L TNGA strong hybrid engine. The strong hybrid model will allow Toyota to position the 3-row Hyryder as the most fuel efficient 7-seater SUV in India.
Toyota will launch the new Land Cruiser Prado 250 in the country towards the end of this year. Positioned below the LC 300, the new LC 250 is a luxury off-roader which comes with new design, upgraded interior and new powertrain options. It will rival the Range Rover Velar, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Audi Q5. In terms of features, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver's display, multi-zone climate control, electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger and a start-stop push button.
The new Land Cruiser Prado will be powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine with a mild hybrid setup. Called the MHEV, the mild-hybrid diesel engine is capable of producing 200bhp and 500Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to all wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
