Volkswagen has started the official testing phase for its new sub-compact SUV - Tera. The car's test mule was spotted a few times before but during its testing on the snowy roads of Spain, it was fully undisguised. The Tera sub-compact SUV has been a confirmed model since 2024 and is likely to enter the international market by this year and India in early 2026. This sub-compact SUV with its debut in the automobile market would rival the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue. Let's look closer at the Tera SUV to know more about it.
The undisguised test mule revealed all the design elements that the subcompact SUV will offer. Through spy images, we see a set of sleek LED headlights, a simple front grille, and a chunky front bumper with big air dams on the sides. Moving a little more below, the entire area is finished in black, and the side profile gets thick claddings, A-pillar-mounted ORVMs, black roof rails, and a set of 10-spoke directional alloy wheels.
As for the rear, the new Tera SUV shows wrap-around taillights, an LED light bar on the tailgate, a rear wiper and washer, an integrated spoiler, a number plate holder on the back bumper, and a faux skid plate.
As the interior is yet to be revealed by the automaker, it is difficult to make out what the features and interior would look like. However, we expect that it will offer ventilated front seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, paddle shifters, and a fully digital instrument console.
One thing that we have done so far is that the Tera SUV will be based on the same MQB A0 IN platform as the Kylaq, Taigun, Slavia, and Kushaq.
For its powertrain, we are expecting a 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that is claimed to produce 118 bhp and a torque of 178 Nm. The transmission options would include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
