Car makers are using platforms designed for ICE vehicles for their early electric vehicles, which allows them to enter the EV market initially in a quicker and cost-effective manner.

Tata Nexon
Tata Motors is the among the first automakers in India to offer a particular product with both ICE and EV powertrains. The Nexon is based on the upgraded Tata X1 Platform, which also underpins the Tigor and Tiago. It was initially launched with petrol and diesel engine options; however, Tata Motors modified this architecture to adopt EV powertrain. Moreover, the homegrown automaker is also selling the CNG version of the Tata Nexon in our market.

Tata Curvv
The homegrown UV maker, Tata Motors had launched the Curvv SUV Coupe in the second half of 2024. This model is available with petrol, diesel and electric powertrains. Adding to it, the Tata Curvv will soon receive a CNG derivative that has already been caught testing on the Indian roads.

Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta has been one of the best-selling SUVs since its inception in our market in 2015. In fact, the SUV was the best-selling car in March 2025. It is the latest model to be offered with petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options. Hyundai engineers have modified the ICE platform to accommodate an EV battery pack and electric motor.
