Mahindra XUV700 and Scorpio N Recalled in India

Utility vehicle giant Mahindra and Mahindra has announced a recall of a total of 19,000 units of the XUV700 and Scorpio N. This is the 4th time that in 2022 the brand has had to issue a recall. The company is currently the market leader in SUV and UV sales in the country, but frequent issues like this will surely tarnish brand value. This is the first time that the Mahindra Scorpio N has faced a recall, while the XUV700 has been involved in all the previous recalls this year.

Why the recall?

XUV700

12,566 units of the Mahindra XUV700 and 6,618 units of the Scorpio N have been recalled due to an issue with the rubber below the inside bell housing of manual transmission models. The company says this is due to a quality control glitch on the vendor’s end that may have affected the “operational dimensional clearance “.

Scorpio N

A bell housing is an extension in the engine block near its crankcase that houses its flywheel and clutch. It is the part where the motor connects to the gearbox which has to be properly cushioned and sealed to absorb vibrations. The rubber below that is being used in the manual transmissions of both the Scorpio N and XUV700 is the faulty part. Due to this, the manufacturer has recalled these units produced between July 1 to November 11, 2022.

Multiple Recalls

The whole world has had to face supply-chain issues ever since the global pandemic in 2020. The issues remain, but the demand for new cars have risen sharply in the last year.

This has led to automakers having to increase production and source parts from multiple suppliers which could result in quality control issues. To prevent it, more stringent quality control or procuring parts from a single vendor should help, but it can only be possible when the supply chain returns to a stable state.

Mahindra & Mahindra Reacts

Mahindra has stated that it will be fixing the issue free of cost. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted individually by their nearest authorized dealership. The automaker promises to fix the problem with minimum fuss and a hassle-free experience for owners.
