Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara crosses 40k bookings; Likely to launch in September with deliveries to commence soon after
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) started accepting bookings for its upcoming Grand Vitara SUV from 11th July for a token amount of Rs. 11,000. Since then the SUV has managed to garner a lot of attention and the automaker has now confirmed that bookings for the four-wheeler has crossed 40,000 units. The SUV was unveiled to the media on 21st July and the market launch is expected around the 1st week of September. Production of the car is already underway at Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Bidadi, Karnataka.
The Grand Vitara is expected to be in the between Rs. 9.5 lakh and Rs. 18 lakhs (ex-showroom). Based on the Global-C platform, the four-wheeler will be offered with two powertrain options (mild hybrid and strong hybrid). The strong hybrid uses a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired to an electric motor producing a combined power output of 114 bhp and 141 Nm of peak torque. This set-up returns a claimed fuel economy of 27.97 kmpl and will be available only in the Zeta+ and Alpha+ trims.

The other option is the 1.5 litre K15C naturally aspirated engine petrol engine with a mild hybrid setup. The unit is available with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter unit. Maruti Suzuki has also added Suzuki All-Grip variant to this power unit.
Once launched, the Grand Vitara will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder in its segment.
