MG's Next EVs and Hybrids Will Get Major Upgrades

MG has revealed its future EV and hybrid technology plans. New plug-in hybrid system and SolidCore batteries are coming. Advanced ADAS features are also part of the roadmap.

MG Motor has shared new details about the technologies that will power its future electric and hybrid vehicles. During its Tech Day event in the UK, the company unveiled a roadmap covering new plug-in hybrid systems, advanced battery technology and improved driver assistance features that are expected to start arriving from 2027.

The announcement gives a clear idea of where MG is heading as it expands its electrified vehicle lineup.

New Plug-in Hybrid System Under Development

One of the biggest highlights is MG's new Plug-in Hybrid+ powertrain.

The system combines newly developed 1.1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines with a next-generation hybrid transmission. MG says the new setup is designed to deliver better fuel efficiency, improved performance and a quieter driving experience when running in electric mode.

The first model to use this technology will be the next-generation MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+, which is scheduled to launch globally in 2027.

New Battery Technology for Future Models

MG has also confirmed that its future plug-in hybrid vehicles will use the company's new SolidCore Battery technology.

The battery uses a semi-solid-state design, which is expected to provide more stable performance, improved operation in hot and cold weather, and better range consistency than conventional lithium-ion batteries.

The company plans to introduce this battery technology in three upcoming SUVs across different segments.

Smarter ADAS Features on the Way

Along with new powertrains, MG is also investing in more advanced driver assistance systems.

The company says it has collected over 1.2 million kilometres of real-world driving data from 24 European countries to improve its ADAS functions.

One of the upcoming features is an advanced automated parking system that can manage more than 300 parking situations, including unmarked parking spaces. It will also support automatic pull-out assistance and reverse path memory for distances of up to 100 metres.

What It Means for India

While these technologies have been announced for global markets, they also offer a glimpse of what could eventually arrive in India.

JSW MG Motor India has been expanding its focus on electric mobility and has already confirmed new EVs and its first plug-in hybrid SUV for the Indian market. As the company grows its electrified portfolio, some of these next-generation technologies could be introduced in future India-spec models as well.
