Renault will launch the new-gen Duster mid-sized SUV in the first quarter of 2026 in India. Production of the new-gen Renault Duster will commence in September 2025 at Renault-Nissan’s manufacturing facility in Chennai. This SUV will initially launch with petrol engine. It will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others in its league.
If media reports are to be believed, Renault is looking at multi-fuel strategy with its upcoming Duster and 7-seater Boreal/Bigster for the Indian market. The new SUV will come with petrol, hybrid and CNG fuel options. The SUV will initially launch with a petrol engine in the first quarter of 2026. The report confirms that the Duster hybrid is expected to arrive in our market within 12 months of the petrol model.
Renault is also looking at compressed natural gas (CNG) for its upcoming SUVs. The company is working with local players to handle its CNG demand. CNG is handled through non-factory partnerships like Minda Westport.
The third-generation Renault Duster will be based on the CMF-B modular platform, which also underpins the Bigster. In fact, the 7-seater derivative of the SUV will also be based on the same modular platform. The platform will also be used to develop 2 new SUVs under Nissan nameplate.
Details about the hybrid engine is yet to be revealed, but the Duster on sale in global markets come with a strong hybrid engine. This powertrain is packed with a 94hp, 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 49hp electric motor, a high-voltage starter generator and a 1.2kWh battery. The combined power output stands at 140hp. It gets an electric automatic gearbox as standard, and the hybrid set-up allows Duster to run purely on electric for 80% of city drives.
The new-gen Duster SUV will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque, and is paired to a 7-speed EDC (Efficient Dual-Clutch) automatic gearbox. The SUV could also get a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and CVT options.
