Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that it will be ramping up production of its SUV line to around 6 lakh units per year in the next 12-15 months. This will help in reducing the massive waiting periods for the Thar, Scorpio N and XUV700.
The current monthly production capacity of 29,000 units will be increased to 49,000 units by Q4 FY2024, Mahindra announced on Friday. The brand also stated that it will be investing Rs 7,900 crore over the next three years. The increase in manufacturing capacity is because of the continuing high demand and the long waiting period that its currently models’ demand. The company is also preparing its production line to accommodate upcoming launches like the 5-door Thar and the XUV400 EV. Mahindra will be creating a manufacturing capacity of 15,000 - 17,000 units a month for the XUV400 EV, accounting for up to 20-30% of the company’s total lineup.

Production units for the Mahindra Thar will increase to 6,000 units a month from 4,000 units, while the XUV700’s number will be increased to 10,000 units from 6,000 units currently. The XUV300 will have 9,500 units a month compared to 6,000 units, while the Scorpio N will see increased production from 6,000 units to 10,000 units.
The Scorpio N has a current waiting period from 15 to 105 weeks, depending on the variant, while the Scorpio Classic has a 12 to 15 week waiting period.
The XUV700 deliveries are taking 6 to 72 weeks, especially for the top models.
Mahindra has posted the highest-ever quarterly sales during the July-September 2022 quarter with 1.74 lakh units, a growth of over 84% in SUV sales.
