Maruti Suzuki has launched the much awaited Jimny 5-door on the first day of Delhi Auto Expo 2023. Codenamed YWD, the Jimny 5-door is essentially the elongated version of the 3-door Jimny sold in the international market. Keeping India in mind and the customer in general, the 5-door version of this SUV will offer more space to its occupants on the inside. In terms of equipment, it offers a large 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity features. Moreover, the New Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will compete against rivals like the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-Door and 5-door Force Gurkha.
Taking a look at the SUV from all angles, besides the addition of two rear doors the vehicle looks the same as its 3-door sibling. Featuring a boxy and rugged design, the SUV upfront provides circular headlamps placed within a blacked-out grille alongside a chunky bumper.
From the sides, the increase in length is the major change on the SUV. As a result its wheelbase is now up to 2590 mm while the rear quarter glass is a fresh add-on to theSUV. Towards the rear, its tailgate and other design elements remain the same as the 3-door version.
Like the exterior, the interior layout of the Jimny 5-door is similar to the 3-door version. What you can see here is a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system offering connectivity features. In terms of equipment, Maruti is offering cruise control, automatic climate control, analogous dials with the multi-info display, steering-mounted audio controls, power windows among others.
Built on a ladder-on-frame chassis, the Maruti Jimny comes powered by the familiar 1.5-litre K15B engine with Suzuki ALL-GRIP Pro AWD technology. It produces a maximum power output of 101bhp while transmission duties are managed by a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The new off-roader also gets a selectable 4X4 system with Low Range Transfer gear. In addition, the off-road SUV also features ample body angles and clearances that include a 50-degree departure angle, 24-degree ramp breakover angle and 36-degree approach angle. Despite the longer wheelbase the car maintains a healthy 210mm of ground clearance.
Maruti is offering safety features like 6 airbags, Traction Control, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Control, and Hill Descent Control with this SUV.
The new Jimny will be offered at the NEXA dealerships in only the top of the line Zeta and Alpha trims only. There are 5 single tone colour options and two dual-tone options on offer. Single-tone colours include Sizzling Red, Granite Grey, NEXA Blue, Bluish Black and Pearl Arctic White; while the dual-tone colours are available on the Sizzling Red and an exclusive Kinetic Green with Bluish Black roof.
While a date is not set for the launch of the Jimny in India, the company has started accepting bookings for the same online and in-person at NEXA dealerships.
