Just ahead of its expected launch around the Delhi Auto Expo 2023, spy shots of the Mahindra Thar 4x2 RWD show the SUV sporting a new Blazing Bronze paint colour. Currently the only other vehicle offered by the brand in this shade is the XUV300 compact SUV. We take a closer look at the spy shot to analyze its features and specifications.
While the design will be the same as the 4x4 model, the New Thar 4x2 will be available in a range of lighter paint schemes. However the key highlight in the upcoming model will be the introduction of the new Blaze Blazing Bronze. As per the images, the SUV looks very striking and for rest we will have to wait till the time the company announces all the colour options for this particular model.
Talking about the interior layout, the dashboard design will remain more or less the same. Besides that, there are a couple of changes that we could see in the upcoming SUV. These would include the exclusion of a 4x4 selector lever and the inclusion of a small utility space for storing nick nacks. It will also offer a new Rough Road Mode instead of the Off-Road option available on the 4x4 model.
The new two-wheel-drive Mahindra Thar will be offered with a smaller 1.5-litre turbo diesel motor instead of the 2.2-litre unit available with the 4x4 variant. The new powertrain is currently being used by the XUV300, where it makes 115 bhp with 300 Nm of peak torque.
As for the 2-litre petrol, it will be carried forward. The gasoline engine is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 150 bhp with 300 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty will be handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox. As per media reports, there will be no automatic transmission on offer. This has been done to keep the price in check for the benefit of the end consumer.
With all the changes that Mahindra will be bringing to the Thar 4x2, expect its pricing to be around 1.5 lakh lower depending upon the variant selected in comparison to the 4x4 version. Currently, prices for this hardcore SUV starts from Rs 13.59 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 16.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
