It is no secret that Volkswagen is developing an all-new compact SUV, which will first go on sale in Brazil. If reports are to be believed, the new Volkswagen Tera will make global debut in March 2025. Until then, the German brand will reveal little information via teasers on its social media platforms. In the global markets, the sub-4 meter SUV will rival the likes of the Fiat Pulse and Renault Kardian.
Not just Brazil, the Volkswagen Tera will also go on sale in Brazil. In fact, VW India is also planning to introduce a new sub-4 meter SUV in the country. To be positioned below the Nivus, the new VW Tera will be assembled in Taubate (SP). The SUV has been caught testing multiple times on the foreign soil.
Going by the spy images, it is visible that the Volkswagen Tera styling is inspired from the brand's latest launches in Europe and North America. The front fascia of the small SUV will have new bumper with darkened elements. It will have split headlamp setup with daytime running lights on the top. At the back, the small SUV gets LED tail-lights connected via a black horizontal bar. The lower bumper has silver treatment to offer a dual-tone shade.
The new Volkswagen Tera compact SUV will be based on the MQB AO platform that also underpins the Polo, T-Cross, Nivus and Virtus models. It is likely to have a wheelbase of 2566mm, which is similar to the Polo hatchback. The compact SUV will measure approximately around 4 meters in length.
The compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. It is likely to produce around 116hp of power, which is again similar to the Polo. The Nivus and T-Cross are offered with a more powerful 128hp, 1.0L version. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
If media reports are to be believed, Volkswagen is also planning to launch a new sub-4 meter SUV in the country in 2025. The new compact SUV will be based on the MQB AO IN platform that underpins the recently launched Skoda Kylaq SUV. While the underpinnings will be shared with the Skoda Kylaq, the VW Tera for India will have a different design and interior layout. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 113bhp and 178Nm of torque.
