Honda Cars India has released the first teaser image of its upcoming SUV for India. As reported, the all-new SUV has been under development for a while and now it is going to officially make its debut by summer 2023. As per the shared teaser by the company, the model is likely to get HR-V like styling cues. Let us take a closer look at what this offering could be from Honda for the Indian consumer.
Although the released teaser only shows the silhouette of the upcoming Honda SUV, it does reveal some design elements as well. The upcoming vehicle is expected to have a coupe-like appearance with a tapering roof. From the front, it would feature an upright nose and grille with wide wraparound headlamps, a multi-slat grille with a large Honda badge in the center and LED daytime running lights. While the bumper will provide a faux skid plate, circular fog lamps, and a dedicated air dam. As for the side profile, it is likely to feature larger wheels with chunky cladding given to the wheel arches making the SUV appear rugged.
In terms of measurement, the upcoming SUV will measure around 4.2 to 4.3 meters in length. The model will be based on the updated version of the platform that is used by Amaze in India.
The midsize SUV from the Japanese automaker is expected to come equipped with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine borrowed from the 5th Generation City. This engine produces a power output of 120 bhp. In addition, Honda might offer a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol. Transmission duties would be carried out by a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox in the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol version while the strong hybrid would come fitted with an e-drive.
As per media reports, the mid-size SUV is likely to debut in India between April to May 2023. Honda Cars could announce its price during this festive season, but expect it to be on a higher side in comparison to other SUVs in the segment. Once launched, the vehicle would compete against rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Hyryder.
