Maruti Suzuki Invicto Will Come with Only a Hybrid Option

Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has started accepting bookings for its upcoming Invicto MPV for a token amount of Rs 25,000. According to a new report, the rebadged version of the Innova Hycross is set to skip the petrol powertrain altogether in favor of a hybrid powertrain option.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto: Strong-Hybrid Powertrain Only

The Invicto will become the second strong-hybrid model in Maruti’s lineup. Expected to come powered by a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and a single electric motor, this model will be rated for a maximum power output of 185 bhp and peak torque of 188 Nm. Transmission options could include only an e-CVT automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto: Why Hybrid Only?

Maruti Suzuki had already hinted at the Invicto to be a hybrid-only only. RC Bhargava, chairman, Maruti Suzuki, had recently stated, It's a strong hybrid, three-row, top-of-the-line kind of vehicle in terms of price. I don't think the volume will be very large, but it's a path-breaking vehicle in a sense because of its carbon-friendly hybrid tech.”

The automaker will likely use the strong-hybrid motor to justify the premium price tag of the Invicto. Upon launch, the MPV will become the brand flagship and will be sold via Maruti’s Nexa outlets only.

Another influencing factor could be the increase in demand that the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid variants have seen since launch.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto: Launch and Pricing

The Invicto is slated to launch next month on July 5. It is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the Toyota Innova Hycross it is based on. The latter is priced between 25.03 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for its strong-hybrid models.
