Tata Motors has launched the all-electric Harrier EV in India, with a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). The electric SUV enters a competitive segment, going up against the Mahindra XEV 9e and the BYD Atto 3, both of which are already on sale. Bookings for the Harrier EV will open on July 2, with deliveries expected soon after.
Let’s see how these three electric SUVs compare in terms of pricing, battery options, and range.
Tata Harrier EV is based on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform and comes with both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options. Buyers can choose between two battery packs: 65 kWh and 75 kWh. Tata claims a maximum driving range of 627 km, while the real-world range, based on Tata’s internal C75 cycle, is rated at up to 505 km.
In terms of performance, the RWD variant produces 238 PS of peak power. The higher-spec dual-motor AWD configuration adds an additional 158 PS motor at the front, delivering a combined torque of 504 Nm. This setup enables the Harrier EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds.
Although Tata has only revealed the base price (Rs 21.49 lakh) for now, the top-end variant is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh or more.
Mahindra XEV 9e is priced between Rs 21.90 lakh and Rs 30.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It offers two battery choices: a 59 kWh battery with a claimed range of 542 km, and a 79 kWh pack delivering 656 km of range, according to Mahindra’s official figures.
In real-world usage, Mahindra suggests that the XEV 9e can deliver over 500 km of driving range, depending on road and driving conditions. This makes it a strong contender in the long-range EV segment.
BYD Atto 3 is available in two variants – Dynamic and Superior, priced between Rs 24.99 lakh and Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It features BYD’s signature Blade Battery technology and offers the following configurations:
Dynamic Variant:
Battery: 49.92 kWh
Claimed Range: 468 km (ARAI)
Superior Variant:
Battery: 60.48 kWh
Claimed Range: 521 km (ARAI)
Charging options include 7.2 kW AC charging (8 hours) and 80 kW DC fast charging, which charges the battery from 0 to 80% in 50 minutes.
Mahindra XEV 9e leads with the highest claimed range of 656 km, closely followed by the Tata Harrier EV’s 627 km. However, the Harrier EV’s lower starting price and advanced features like AWD and fast acceleration could attract value-conscious buyers.
Meanwhile, the BYD Atto 3, despite its advanced battery tech and quick charging options, falls behind on range and comes with a significantly higher starting price compared to its Indian rivals.
