MG Windsor EV is cheaper compared to the Hyundai Creta Electric. Creta Electric has a longer range of up to 473km. Both vehicles boast contemporary features such as big screens and safety measures. Hyundai provides superior after-sales service with its larger service network. Windsor EV is perfect for affordable buyers; Creta is suitable for range and features.
The electric vehicle (EV) market is expanding rapidly, and two notable contenders in the compact SUV category are the MG Windsor EV and the Hyundai Creta Electric. Both offer different features, pricing, and performance, catering to different types of buyers.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how these two electric SUVs compare.
The MG Windsor EV has more affordable options compared to the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Windsor EV costs between Rs. 9.99 lakh and Rs. 11.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom) with a battery rental facility. That is, you pay for the battery as an additional cost of Rs. 3.5 per km. Or, if you want to buy the car and the battery pack too, prices are between Rs. 14 lakh and Rs. 16 lakh.
The Hyundai Creta Electric's prices begin from Rs. 17.99 lakh and go as high as Rs. 24.37 lakh, based on variant (introductory, ex-showroom). Which means the Creta Electric will be a prestige move versus the Windsor EV that could price entry-level buyers out of its presence.
By the range, however, the Hyundai Creta Electric has the largest margin. MG Windsor EV gets its power from a 38kWh battery pack and the estimated maximum driving distance when completely charged is a respectable 331km. Driving distances in realistic traffic conditions, however, stand to be anything around 250-280 km. The Windsor EV takes an approximately 6.5 hour fill-up charge by using the 7.4kW AC charger while being capable of using 50kW DC quick charging as well as can give an 80% refill for approximately 55 minutes.
Hyundai Creta Electric is also available in two battery sizes: 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery. With the lower capacity 42kWh battery, the full-charge range is 390km, while the 51.4kWh battery provides a range of much higher 473km. The Creta Electric can be charged from 10% to 100% in approximately 4 hours with an 11kW AC home charger. It is also DC fast charging compatible, which will charge the battery from 10% to 80% in about 58 minutes.
Those who need a higher range for daily commutes should consider the Hyundai Creta Electric instead.
The MG Windsor EV and Hyundai Creta Electric have a long list of contemporary features, differing in some way.
The MG Windsor EV receives a 15.6-inch touchscreen, the largest in the Indian range of MG, and an 8.8-inch digital driver's display. It also receives a wireless charging tray, auto air con, powered driver's seat, panoramic glass roof, and powered tailgate. On the safety front, the Windsor EV receives 6 airbags (front, side, and curtain), electronic stability program (ESP), hill-start assist, hill descent control, and rear parking sensors.
Hyundai Creta Electric shares a lot of commonality with the regular Creta, including automatic headlamps, leatherette interior, and powered seats. Creta Electric top-spec trims come equipped with premium bits like a smart panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, front ventilated seats, wireless smartphone charger, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Creta also has safety features like 6 airbags, hill-start assist, 360-degree camera, vehicle stability control, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The high-end variants have a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
In total, both vehicles have a good list of features, but the Creta Electric is better with the inclusion of extra premium features and ADAS safety package on the top trims.
Hyundai has a strong and well-established service network in India. This is a critical point for customers looking for good after-sales service and convenience in approaching service facilities. MG, expanding its service network, is yet to catch up with Hyundai. In case you want more service coverage, Hyundai's extensive network could be superior.
The MG Windsor EV is slightly bigger than the Hyundai Creta Electric. It has a length of 4,295mm, a width of 2,126mm, and a height of 1,677mm. The Windsor EV also has a longer 2,700mm wheelbase, which gives it a more spacious cabin and bigger boot. The Windsor EV has a spacious 604-litres' boot space, bigger than some like the Tata Curvv EV provide. The Windsor's upper-spec variants have 18-inch alloys, but lower-spec variants have 17-inch wheels.
The Hyundai Creta Electric measures 4,340mm in length, 1,790mm in width, and 1,655mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,610mm. The Creta Electric also features a 433-litre boot, just like the normal Creta. It also has a 22-litre front frunk for storing small things in it. This extra storage space may prove useful to consumers who require extra room for their luggage.
Whereas the Windsor EV gets more boot space, the frunk of the Creta Electric is reasonable enough.
The MG Windsor EV is more affordable, and it is perfect for budget-conscious customers. It offers plenty of interior room, plenty of boot space, and essentials at an affordable price. Its driving range is not as good as the Hyundai Creta Electric's, however, making it perfect for owners with a lot of short to medium-range driving.
The Hyundai Creta Electric, though costlier, enjoys a much broader range and faster charging facilities, better for people who need to cover longer distances on a daily basis. The additional premium options and strong service network offered by Hyundai also render the car as a contender.
In short, if you prefer an affordable electric vehicle with decent range and features, MG Windsor EV would be appropriate. But if you need more range, faster charging, and more features, Hyundai Creta Electric would be appropriate.
