Suzuki has recently revealed the final edition of the Swift Sport nameplate, which suggests that the hot hatch won't enter the new generation. However, Japanese media claims that the new Swift Sport is still under development and will make its global debut sometime in 2026.
If media reports are to be believed, the new gen Suzuki Swift Sport will come with a more powerful and efficient powertrain. The new sporty hatchback is not likely to arrive in our market.
The new model will be based on the same HEARTECT platform that underpins the normal Swift. It will be powered by the same 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which will be tuned for better performance and higher efficiency. The engine will be benefitted with a 48V mild hybrid system. In fact, the report claims that the powertrain will get substantial improvements and will be called all-new.
According to the report, the new Swift Sport will measure around 3990mm in length, 1750mm in width and 1500mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2450mm. The hatchback will weigh around 960kgs. It will be powered by a 1.4L inline 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system and an electric motor. The engine produces 148bhp and 240Nm of torque. The electric motor will add another 15bhp and 58Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. It will continue to be a front-wheel-drive model.
The standard Maruti Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 81bhp and 111.7Nm of torque. The India-spec model comes with a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. In the global market, the Swift hatchback gets a CVT and a mild hybrid system as well.
Another big development is that Maruti Suzuki is preparing a strong hybrid version of the Swift hatchback. The hatchback has already been caught testing on the Indian roads with a "Hybrid" badge. It is expected that Maruti Suzuki is testing its in-house development of a strong hybrid system, which will debut in Fronx facelift.
The powertrain in question will comprise a 1.2L, 3-cylinder, Z-series engine paired to a battery and an electric motor. The hybrid system will work as a range extender where the gasoline motor will work as a generator and recharge the battery pack. The electric motor will send the power to the wheels. It will be a series hybrid powertrain setup, and more economical than Toyota's strong hybrid system that is available with the Maruti Grand Vitara. With this engine, the Fronx Hybrid should return a fuel efficiency of over 30kmpl.
