Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian arm of the Japanese automaker, aims to expand its footprint with a range of new products and by setting up a new manufacturing facility. Considering the demand for premium SUVs, the company will introduce two new three-row SUVs next year. The plan includes the new-generation Toyota Fortuner and a 7-seater SUV based on the upcoming three-row version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The official launch timeline of the next-generation Fortuner is yet to be revealed. However, the SUV is expected to arrive in 2025 with comprehensive design changes and feature upgrades. Reports suggest that there will also be a new 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine replacing the existing 2.8L diesel motor.
Compared to its predecessor, the new gasoline unit will be 30 percent more energy-efficient, 10 percent smaller, and have lower carbon emissions. Toyota’s new 2.0L turbo petrol engine will come in three states of tune – the lowest for day-to-day commuting, the mid-level for performance cars, and the highest for the brand’s GR Sport range. In its lowest state, the engine produces an impressive 300bhp and 400Nm of torque.
7-seater Toyota Hyryder
Toyota’s rebadged version of the 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara will also be introduced sometime next year. Both SUVs will be based on Suzuki’s global C platform and will have a longer wheelbase than their 5-seater counterparts. The design and styling of the upcoming Toyota 7-seater SUV and the three-row Grand Vitara will be distinct; however, these SUVs will share the interior, features, components, and powertrain.
The powertrain setup of the new Toyota 7-seater SUV will consist of the 1.5L K15C petrol and 1.5L strong hybrid setups. While the naturally aspirated petrol engine will be available with 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions, the strong hybrid will come with an e-CVT gearbox. Compared to the 5-seater Hyryder, this three-row SUV will certainly carry a premium price tag.
