Tata Motors is set to roll out a facelifted version of its successful Altroz premium hatchback. Even with the increasing trend of SUVs in India, the Altroz has been able to hold its ground in the competitive hatchback market. Tata is expecting that the changes in the new model will provide an impetus to the sales of the car, which have been somewhat disappointing in the last few months.
The Tata Altroz has been seen testing in camouflage after its facelift. Spy images reveal some intriguing changes. The most obvious changes are done to the headlamps. The new Altroz will get slimmer, more contemporary-styled headlamps with LED lights, in contrast with the current design. The front bumper also gets a sportier change with C-shaped features, a new, style-oriented addition. As opposed to the model today, the fog lights are now not placed below the headlights any longer. The grille must be Gloss Black-finished on the production vehicle and must have an even more upscale look for the vehicle. The alloy wheels are also changed, and the windshield wipers seem to be a premium frameless design as well.
At the back, the Altroz facelift will feature slimmer tail lights that will help provide the car with an overall new-age appearance. These are some of the changes meant to keep the Altroz in line with current design trends and draw more buyers to the premium hatchback segment.
Inside, Tata Motors will likely add some new features. The Altroz facelift will also feature a new steering wheel with a lit logo. It will also feature a touch and toggle climate controls system, a rotary drive mode dial, and a slew of new features already seen in other Tata cars. A 10.2-inch instrument screen will also be offered, which will further improve drivers' digital experience. Other features most likely to be included in the package are rear disc brakes, one-piece sunroof, and ventilated front seats, a feature that has already been launched on the Altroz Racer variant.
Tata will also likely introduce additional premium elements to the interior, such as refreshed upholstery and door trim, to make the car look more contemporary. Although the sunroof may be a feature on the upper trims, it may not be offered across the board.
The Altroz still comes with a few engine choices, and these would also be carried forward to the facelifted vehicle. These are the naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, the turbo-petrol unit, CNG offerings, and the diesel unit. The facelift would likely carry forward these varied offerings so that the Altroz is capable of catering to varying customer tastes.
Altroz is distinguished by its twin-cylinder CNG variant, which is not available in any other Indian premium hatchback. It is also the only premium hatchback with a diesel engine. Tata is looking to offer versatility and choice to the buyers through these engines.
Tata Motors anticipates the facelift model of Altroz to propel its sales, which have been sluggish in the last few months. Tata sold 4,568 units of Altroz in February 2024, and numbers increased to 5,985 units in March 2024. The numbers show an upsurge, but the Altroz has not seen the similar type of sales as competitors like the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Toyota Glanza.
The Racer variant, released in June 2024, wasn't provided with a massive sales boost. Maybe because the dual-clutch auto gearbox and out-of-kilter exterior orange and interior red color scheme were absent. All this notwithstanding, Tata Motors still managed to sell the Altroz, and with the facelift in the pipeline, they anticipate producing an even better-finished car that would be more appealing.
