The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara are two electric SUVs sharing the same platform and most of the features. But they offer different designs, styling, and some specifications. Let's compare the two electric vehicles in detail.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV and the Maruti e Vitara are based on the same platform, new BEV platform. That is to say that both SUVs have very similar structural foundations, but both cars have their own design and engineering features. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is based on the Urban Concept SUV and retains many of its design and technologies.
Both are expected to bring both efficiency and modernness, staying true to their respective individual brands. Toyota's Urban Cruiser EV will first start sales in Europe, followed by the Maruti e Vitara in India, so that matches their regional goals.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV comes in two different battery sizes i.e, 49 kWh and 61 kWh pack. The 49 kWh version has a front-wheel drive (FWD) motor, with a power output of 144hp. The 61 kWh version can come in FWD or AWD, with up to 184hp.
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will also come in two battery sizes: 49 kWh, and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh is based on a FWD system producing a maximum of 142bhp. While the bigger battery 61 kWh pack are supported by both FWD and 4WD options with a maximum power of 181bhp. Both SUVs will offer a range of up to about 500 kilometers on full charges using this bigger battery pack, too.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV has a bold, futuristic design with a "hammerhead" front end, sharp body lines, and a muscular rear end with striking rear lights that span the width of the back. Its front and rear bumpers are powerfully rendered to give it a strong SUV presence. It features 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels and comes in bi-tone color options with a contrasting black roof.
Maruti e Vitara shows a more rugged feel design with Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and thin cameras module. It also comes with wheel on 18- and 19-inch with dark paint scheme as an add-on. The rear end boasts fresh connected tail-lamps and floating roofline designs. Therefore, it looks relatively updated and stylish. Thus both SUVs share the design approach but have different styling cues suitable to taste.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is even slightly bigger than the Maruti e Vitara. Measuring in, the length of Toyota SUV is 4,285 mm, which is 1,800 mm and 1,640 mm in terms of width and height respectively. It also has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
The Maruti e Vitara is 4,275 mm long, short by just 10 mm of Toyota but shares the width and measures 1,635 mm in height. It comes with 180 mm of ground clearance, and the same is expected with the Urban Cruiser EV.
Inside, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV features a dual-tone black and grey interior with ambient lighting that can change into 12 colors. Equipped with a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen multimedia system in one body, the Urban Cruiser EV comes equipped with a JBL premium audio system, fixed sunroof, and some of the most advanced driver assistive features, including lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and 360-degree camera.
Maruti e Vitara will have a two tone dashboard, steering wheel consisting of two spokes and even comes with digital instrumentation, including a floating centre tray, wireless charging and even ventilating the front seats. Other variants come in safety equipped in six airbags plus with traction control, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts. It also includes 360-degree camera and ADAS with lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control. However, the slight advantage to the Toyota is in addition to advanced safety technologies that include pre-collision systems.
