The all-electric version of the Tata Tiago hatchback is scheduled for launch on September 28. Christened the Tata Tiago EV, this will be the smallest and most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market at launch. For reference, Tata Motors currently sells petrol and CNG versions of the four-wheeler which have been popular in the market. The addition of a third powertrain option is going to add to this popularity.
In terms of design, the Tiago EV will largely resemble its ICE counterpart with a minor differentiation. At the front, the Tiago EV will feature a closed-off grille with Tri-Arrow pattern and a prominent EV badge. Towards the side we are set to see a new design for the alloy wheels along blue highlight accents along the humanity line. On the inside, the car is expected to feature the same overall layout and theme, but with EV blue accents around the AC vents. The feature list on the new model is set to accommodate an automatic climate control, cooled glove box, electrically foldable ORVMs, 7-inch connectNext floating touchscreen infotainment unit by HARMAN, sound system with 4 speakers and 4 tweeters. A drive mode selector with a dedicated sports mode is also expected to be a part of the package.
The chassis and the powertrain component on the upcoming Tata Tiago EV are expected to be a straight lift-off from the Tata Tigor EV. It will make use of a the familiar 26 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack that is rated to a maximum power output of 74 bhp and a peak torque of 170 Nm. The battery pack will be IP67 water resistance and offer a claimed range of 306 kilometres on a single charge.
Another XPres-T powertrain with a 21.3 kWh battery pack claiming a range of 213 kilometres can also be offered specifically for commercial fleet operators, something similar to what we have seen on Tigor EV.
As confirmed by the teaser, the Tiago EV will get the cruise control function which was missing on the Tigor EV along with single paddle driving technology. Along with this, we are also expected to get multi-mode regeneration feature, initially introduced with the Nexon EV MAX. This feature lets the user adjust the level of regenerative braking depending upon their driving style.
