Hyundai Cars has unveiled the first official pictures of the facelifted i20 in Europe. Slated to go on sale in internationally soon, the hatchback gets a subtle exterior design refresh and few new features inside.
The current third-gen Hyundai i20 was introduced in mid-2020 in international markets, followed by the India launch a few months later. The facelift is part of the mid-life update of the hatchback and features minor updates.
On the exterior, the 2023 Hyundai i20 will feature an updated front grille and revised bumper with arrow-shaped inlets on the sides. The chin is wider and more prominent than before and is finished in matte black. You will notice that the new 2D Hyundai badge has been shifted from the grille to the front of the bonnet.
Towards the sides the only new element on the i20 facelift is the star-shaped alloy wheel design. While at the rear, the hatchback receives a faux rear diffuser and a dual-tone finish.
In addition to the above-mentioned updates, the new Hyundai i20 facelift also get three new exterior colour options as well, namely Lumen Grey, Meta Blue Pearl, and Lime Metallic.
The i20 facelift’s interior remains largely identical to the existing model. However, the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster has been given an update along with new LED ambient lighting and supports for OTA updates.
Besides these, the biggest change to the model is the standardisation of the ADAS features like Forward Collision Assist and Lane Follow Assist across the range.
Globally, the new Hyundai i20 is offered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. It will be available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.
When it comes to India, we expect the new i20 to continue with the current 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine options. Transmission choices could include a 5-speed manual/ iMT/ CVT/ 7-speed DCT gearbox depending on the variants.
Hyundai is yet to confirm when the i20 facelift will launch in India. Expect the new hatchback to arrive in our country by early- or mid-2024 at the earliest. Upon launch, the new i20 will compete against the Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza.
